This week, our question centres around branding and its importance for businesses. We were asked: How important is branding to my business and do I need to spend a long time on it?


In this week's edition of Dear Dueto, we will look at why branding is SO important to your business and why you need to make sure that your company has a strong brand.


Why is branding so important?


Firstly, let's address why branding is so important for a business and why it is essential that your business has a respectable brand.


The number one thing to highlight here is that when a potential customer starts to see your brand, the first thing they are going to see is the visual representation that you have portrayed through your branding. If it's dull, lifeless and boring, then that customer is unlikely to be inspired to want to use your business. Therefore it is vital, that your branding is done correctly and that it hasn't been rushed. It is crucial that you get this part of your business right because this is essentially the first impression that a customer will have of your business.


Once you have established your brand guidelines, which will include the colour scheme, the fonts and the tone of voice, the next stage is to stay consistent with them. You don't want to change which font you are using each week in your content because then your business will start to become unrecognisable and customer's will start to become confused. In order to become memorable among customers, you must have foundations that are built upon consistency so that a customer can see something and associate it with your brand.


Answering the second part of this week's question: How long should I spend on branding?, there isn't really a straightforward answer to this question because the truth is that it will take as long as it takes. Now, it goes without saying that you don't want to overthink and spend months and months on it, but every company will be different. The main outcome needs to be that when you see your brand guidelines, you think to yourself: I can see this working and I can keep this consistent across all my content.


Overall, the main takeaway from everything to do with branding is once you have picked a set of brand guidelines, make sure you stick to them and be consistent. This way, you will be recognisable to your audience and help to build a positive rapport with them.
